Parents confront Tamil Nadu school for not allowing student to wear kumkum, holy ash

by admin

A video surfaced from Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district showing the parents of a student questioning a school principal for not allowing him to wear kumkum or holy ash on his forehead.

The parents of a student confronted a school principal in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district after they restricted him from wearing holy ash or kumkum on his forehead. The video of the incident is now making rounds on social media.

The video shows the relatives of a student surrounding Nirmala, the principal of KR Government School and senior staff and questioning her.

“I only said that there is a government rule not permitting it. Isn’t that what I said? Did I threaten you? Didn’t I say that we’ve received a GO not permitting wearing a ‘pottu’ (bindi) ?”, Nirmala questioned the student.

A person then interrupted, asking if the order specifically says that no ‘pottu’ is allowed, to which the principal responded that ‘pottu’ and wearing threads on hands are not allowed.

India Today tried contacting the District Education Officer who said that he’s in a meeting and would respond after getting complete information.

However, sources from the State Education Department have denied any such stringent GO not permitting students from wearing holy ash or kumkum.
